who? a summary
I’m veronica tortchik, also known as crescent (though I’ve gone by quite a few names over the years)
I’m an Italian freelance 2D Illustrator and Concept Artist who loves exploring and creating projects across different creative fields. My main focus is on Fantasy, Dark Fantasy, and Horror, but I also have experience in children’s book illustration. I work both digitally and traditionally, the “old-school” way: all of my artworks are completely free from generative AI. Over the past fifteen years in the art world, I’ve studied, worked, and collaborated across a wide range of disciplines, from concept art and illustration for video games to pedagogy and art therapy, comics, and 2D/3D animation.
There are countless ways ideas, stories, and emotions can be expressed, and it never ceases to amaze me. I’m still eager to keep exploring them in all their variety.

With concept art, it’s almost standard practice that throughout the design cycle different stages of the process involve both traditional and digital production, alternating between the two.
Although this isn’t something unique to my concepts, when it comes to illustrations I tend to do fewer material studies, focusing instead right from the sketch phase on the final medium.
Overall? No fixed rules. After all, every project and every piece has its own needs.
generative AI and why not
Like many other authors, i firmly believe artist’s rights and data privacy should be respected. The current use of creators work without their consent in datasets is unethical and has to be resolved via regulation. Futhermore:
«In the event that legislation is passed to clearly protect artists, we believe that AI-generated content should always be clearly labeled as such, because the public should always be able to search for human-made art and media easily.»
